An annual tradition that is older than the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) itself, the 2022 Spirit of Christmas concert is happening once again in the Concert Hall this year. Can’t make it up to Brisbane for a performance? Has tickets to your preferred session sold out once again? Don’t fret, as on Saturday 24 December 2022 from 5.00pm until midnight, you will be able to stream Spirit of Christmas on QPAC’s Digital Stage streaming platform at no charge. This is the second year in a row that QPAC is putting up their own time-limited digital-offering to go up against the dominant televised Christmas Eve forces of Melbourne’s Carols by Candlelight and Sydney’s Carols in the Domain?
This year’s concert features a number of musical theatre starts, including Courtney Monsma (Frozen The Musical, SIX The Musical, Aladdin and MAMMA MIA!), Alex Rathgeber (The Mousetrap, Anything Goes, Phantom of the Opera, Wizard of Oz), and an up-and-coming star Jacqui Dwyer, a recent graduate of Griffith University’s Queensland Conservatorium’s musical theatre program.
These performers will be complemented by instrumental works by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra with musical director and conductor Simon Kenway, and additional vocals by the QPAC Chamber Choir and Voices of Birralee.
It is unknown whether the 2022 Spirit of Christmas stream will become unavailable come Christmas Day, or join the small number of pay-to-watch streams on the QPAC Digital Stage platform.
