9 December 2022. When the school bell tolls on this day, school holidays will commence for families across Queensland. Perhaps you might like to start the holidays off by arranging a babysitter, and going out with a loved one or friend to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) Concert Hall to watch Damien Leith and a full orchestra perform Roy Orbison Orchestrated.
Featuring performances by Damien Leith, the show is pitched as featuring “all Roy’s biggest hits, complete with a full orchestra with strings arranged by Australia’s 2022 Young Composer of the Year, Emma Greenhill”.
Tickets to the season will start at $85.00, with increased prices indicating more preferable seating options. Ticket bookings for the one session at 9 December 2022 at 8.00pm are now open via the QPAC website, or by phoning the QTIX Box Office during business hours on 136 246.
Roy continues to be one of my biggest influences, and paying homage to the great man’s music on stage is something I take great pride in. His ability to create his own unique sound, which made him stand out over so many other artists is a challenge, but one I relish.

For those interested, below is a provided piece about Damien Leith’s career in both music, and involvement with the works of Roy Orbison:
He has a close affiliation with the Orbison estate, having worked with the late Barbara Orbison on his ‘ROY, A tribute to Roy’ album. She was full of praise, but ended their meeting with an apt, ”You got it!”
When Leith flew to Nashville to record the album he worked with many musicians and artists associated with Roy.
The legendary Joe Melson (co-writer of Crying, Blue Bayou, In Dreams) was so impacted by Damien that he started writing songs again. “Damien’s voice touched me and made me want to write again, in the same way that Roy’s voice did,” said Melson and since their meeting, the pair have been writing almost weekly via skype.
Damien Leith first captured the hearts of the Australian public in the 2006 reality television show Australian Idol. Since then he has enjoyed platinum selling albums and multiple awards including ARIAs, MTV Australia Video Music Awards and Helpmann Awards.
In addition to his incredible musical successes, he has also hosted and co-hosted multiple television shows, penned two novels, and continues to co-host a popular breakfast radio show, having also won two Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRA).
