From its inaugural home at the Sydney Capitol Theatre following two years of being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 9 to 5 the Musical’s Australian tour is set to soon say goodbye to New South Wales and begin its tour across the country. But, Sydney losing 9 to 5 the Musical comes to the benefit of other states, with the production next heading to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s (QPAC) Lyric Theatre from 22 May 2022 – followed by Arts Centre Melbourne’s State Theatre from 10 July and Adelaide’s Festival Theatre from 8 October 2022. Based on the film of the same name, a score by the legendary Dolly Parton and book by the movie’s original screenwriter Patricia Resnick, the musical tells the story of Doralee, Violet and Judy, three enterprising workmates pushed to the edge by their mean-spirited boss Franklin Hart Jnr. Resorting to wit, comradery and cunning, they dream up a no holds barred scheme to kidnap and turn the tables on their controlling supervisor in the most hilariously defiant of ways. The only question is, will the feisty trio manage to change the office culture to reach their full potential – or will events unravel when the CEO pays an unexpected visit?
