Christmas and Musical Theatre tend to go together nicely, with it not being unusual to see the cast of one or more productions appearing at the major Christmas carol events across Australia. But getting in ahead of the crowd, the producers of the Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 the Musical Australian tour has today shared the cast’s own “Dolly Parton-inspired take on the traditional Jingle Bells”.
Available to watch in its entirety above, the new arrangement with a country twang is directed by Daniel Edmonds, and features the musical talent of the show’s lead cast – Marina Prior, Casey Donovan, Erin Clare, Caroline O’Connor and Eddie Perfect.
The Australian premiere of 9 to 5 the Musical will commence at the Capitol Theatre, Sydney starting in February 2021 – followed by a limited season at Brisbane’s QPAC Lyric Theatre in May.
It’s no surprise I love Christmas, and I also love Dolly Parton and her music. To sing a Dolly-inspired Jingle Bells in the lead up to Christmas was wonderful, and gets me in the mood for all the shopping and cooking I’ve got to do before my annual Christmas Eve tradition, singing at Carols By Candlelight. And wouldn’t tickets to 9 TO 5 make a great Christmas present for all your friends?
