Genshin Concert 2021: ‘Melodies of an Endless Journey’ was Incredible!

Mini-Review

Things haven’t been picture perfect for developer MiHoYo these past few weeks, receiving criticism, review bombs and more due to some perceiving them as stingy with 1st Anniversary awards for all players. But regardless of where you stand on the spectrum on this issue, you will want to watch the online portion of Genshin Concert 2021: Melodies of an Endless Journey which just concluded streaming via Youtube (and other platforms depending on where you reside) as I write this. This alone, given it was provided for free, in my opinion, was enough of an Anniversary Present (Not that I would say no to more free primogems or other goodies).

Genshin Impact has a divine soundtrack, from the fun upbeat tracks of the Mondstadt fields, the more intense beats of Liyue and the intense headbangers for literally every boss fight in the game. If you want to see just how amazing the music is, I recommend you tune into the official soundtrack streams or watch music producer Alex Moukala break down some of the tracks. The music was composed by Yu Peng Chen and HOYO-MiX, and part of the fun of each update is seeing what new music they have created.

Tonight we got to enjoy a compilation of tracks performed by Flanders Symphony Orchestra (w/ Belgian conductor Maestro Dirk Brossé) in addition to other musicians from the United States, South Korea and more. While the concert is expected to be continued in a live format by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra in Shanghai, China (which will be available online after the concert), a fantastic array of songs were on offer. A few of the pieces presented include an acapella version of the game’s main theme, to the soothing melody of ‘Breezes of Idylls and Wine’ to the insanity which is ‘Let’s Go, Crimson Knight!’ to an amazing near-finale with the Vortex suite of songs.

Arguably the game’s best song, ‘Rage Beneath the Mountains’, was not featured… but I would expect it to appear in the live concert. My body is ready to witness a live performance of this battle themes of battle themes. The focus of the concert was primarily on music from the Version 1.0 – 1.6 era, so it doesn’t feature tracks from Inazuma which was featured in 2.0.

However, that is enough fanboy’ing from me. Whether you are a regular connoisseur of the symphony orchestra or just enjoy listening to game music – Genshin Concert 2021: Melodies of an Endless Journey is something to treat your eyes and ears to. Complemented by expert videography and the occasional inclusion of contemporary dance / ballet, I would argue that this may be a concert worth checking out even if this is your first time hearing about Genshin Impact!

You can watch it in full with no restrictions above via the official Genshin Impact Youtube channel.
