Michael Cassel Group Forms Commercial ‘First Look’ Agreement with Sydney Theatre Company

A newly collaboration between Michael Cassel Group (The Australian producer behind the likes of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Hamilton the Musical and Sydney Theatre Company has been announced today. This takes the form of a commercial ‘First Look’ agreement for all future works produced by STC. According to Michael Cassel Group, this “innovative agreement allows [them] to share STC productions with a greater audience, on stages across Australia and around the world.

Each Australian state has its own suite of state companies. For example, here in Queensland, this takes the form of Queensland Theatre, Queensland Ballet, Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Opera Queensland. Regardless of the state, despite each company producing world-class acts, very few productions receive the national-tour they deserve. At least for Sydney Theatre Company, with the backing of Michael Cassel Group, more of their works could very well head interstate or even internationally in the future.

According to a report initially announced in Variety, the first partnership work will be the adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’, which was presented initially in late-2020 as part of Sydney Theatre Company’s 2020 Season. The season will recommence in 2022.
