Cast Changes Ahead for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Australia’s Third Year

Changes are afoot in the magical world of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Australia as it enters its third year, with producers Sonia Friedman, Colin Callender and Michael Cassel confirming this week that new cast members are in rehearsals to commence next month. New members of the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Australian cast include:

  • Green Room Award-winner Natasha Herbet as Dolores Umbridge
  • Torres Strait-Islander, former professional rugby league player and Wagadagam man Michael Bani as Bane
  • NIDA and VCA graduate Aisha Aidara making her professional debut as Rose Granger-Weasely
  • Melbourne-based actor Ben Walter who will assume the role of Albus Potter

Joining them on-stage in (currently) unspecified roles are Gabriella Barbagallo, Luke Clayson, Axel Duffy, Katie-Jean Harding, Matt Holly, Abdul Muhaimin, Harrison Riley, Tom Russel and David Spencer. Their first performances in their respective roles will commence on Wednesday 26 May 2021.

Those confirmed to be continuing in their respective roles past May 2021 include Gareth Reeves as Harry Potter, Lucy Goleby as Ginny Potter, Paula Arundell as Hermione Granger, Michael Whalley as Ron Weasley, Tom Wren as Draco Malfoy, and Nyx Calder as Scorpius Malfoy.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter franchise and the first official tale to be presented on a format outside of novel or film. The play was created by Jack Thorne together with J.K. Rowling, with direction by John Tiffany. It is split up into two parts, and are intended to be seen in order on the same day (matinee and evening) or on two consecutive evenings. The Australian performance schedule is below, which each part priced from $65.00 – although better seating reserves will be considerably more expensive.
