Circa and Aardman Unite to Present Shaun the Sheep’s Circus Show

Ever thought you would see the day where the words “Sheep” and “Circus” would appear in the same show title? Well, today is your lucky day! The Brisbane-based contemporary circus company Circa Contemporary Circus and acclaimed animation studio Aardman have this morning confirmed they are partnering up to produce a new circus-theatre production for audiences of all ages. Based off their long-running Shaun the Sheep property, this show is titled Shaun the Sheep’s Circus Show.

The teams aspire to deliver the entire family a “visual spectacle”, which combines the signature animation of Shaun the Sheep with the live performance mastery of Circa. They promise it will be “packed full of smart wit and outright hilarity” as the show “blurs the lines between movement, dance, theatre and circus”.

Shaun the Sheep’s Circus Show will be produced by Circa Contemporary Circus, Screen Queensland and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre; with support from the Australian Federal Government’s Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (Rise) fund and the Queensland Government’s Arts Illuminate fund. Behind the scenes, the show will be directed by Yaron Lifschitz, with scenic designs by Dan Potra, a composition by Jethro Woodward, costumes by Libby McDonnell, lighting by Jason Organ and video direction/design by Craig Wilkinson from the amazing Optikal Bloc. The Brisbane season will be the world premiere.

Presented in QPAC’s Lyric Theatre, the season will run from 2 March 2021 for a strictly limited season. Tickets are not yet on sale, but those interested are invited to visit the show’s official website and register for its waitlist.
