Queensland Theatre's June Play Club to Feature Live Reading of The Turquoise Elephant 1

In response to the COVID-19 shutdown, the creative team at Queensland Theatre responded by launching their Play Club – a regular online event which would see members of the performing arts industry come together and read scripts of iconic plays. It may not be an ideal replacement for on-stage performances, but it is nevertheless a suitable alternative until venues can open back up. Two sessions have been hosted to date, starting off with ‘The Bull, the Moon and the Coronet of Stars‘ in April and followed up by ‘Mr Bailey’s Minder‘ in May.

A little bit later in the month than expected, but Queensland Theatre has confirmed their June 2020 reading will take place on Tuesday 23 June 2020 at 7.30pm, and be of The Turquoise Elephant by Stephen Carleton. Stars of stage Violette Ayad, Nicole Hoskins, Thomas Larkin, Barb Lowing, Brian Lucas and Andrea Moor will partake in this reading, along with director Daniel Evans (Oedipus Doesn’t Live Here Anymore). A short Q&A will take place following the live read.

The capacity for each of the upcoming free streams will be strictly limited. Therefore, if this is something of interest to you, booking via the official Queensland Theatre website is essential. The Play Club streams are being on a month-to-month basis, so keep an eye out for more information on what’s next from Queensland Theatre in the coming weeks.
