Following their 2019 season of Wicked the Musical at HOTA: Home of the Arts and Rent at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre in 2018, Gold Coast based theatrical producer Matt Ward Entertainment is headed to The Star Gold Coast in July this year to present a three-week season of Mamma Mia! The Musical. The season will run from 4 July 2020 – 26 July 2020.

This season will involve a Queensland creative team including Tim Hill as Director, Bev Kennedy as Musical Director, Adam Gardnir as Set Designer, Jess Hansen as Costume Designer and Wesley Bluff as Lighting Designer. Casting has yet to be announced, with an open audition call for all characters bar Donna and Sophie (who will be recruited via an upcoming online/radio talent search) taking place right now.

A major production of Mamma Mia! The Musical was last toured across Australia in 2017-2018 by Louise Withers and Michael Coppel Entertainment. This was a show which I saw a couple of times, and am honestly more than ecstatic to have the opportunity to see it a couple more times at least.

Preview from Mamma Mia! The Musical’s 2017-2018 Australian Tour. This preview should is not indicative of any casting or staging in the 2020 Gold Coast season.

Tickets can now be purchased officially via Ticketek. Pricing ranges from $75.00 up to approximately $140.00 for a VIP experience. Keep in mind that price points / different reserves can be reflective of how good your view is of the stage. Purchasing a VIP package will offer you VIP Entry to the venue, best seats in the house, a drink on arrival, a program, a meet & greet + photography opportunity with the cast and an unspecified “Chance to get up and be part of the action”.

Named after the ABBA song of the same name, Mamma Mia! The Musical is a production featuring many classic hit songs by the iconic band complemented by a fun narrative. On a small Greek island, Sophie dreams of a perfect wedding — one which includes her father giving her away. The problem? Sophie doesn’t know who he is! Her mother Donna, refuses to talk about the past, so Sophie decides to take matters into her own hands. Sneaking a peek in her mother’s old diaries, she discovers three possible fathers: Sam, Bill, and Harry. She secretly invites all three to the wedding, convinced that she’ll know her father when she sees him. But when all three turn up, it may not be as clear as she thought!
