During 2014 and 2015, Strictly Ballroom the Musical traveled the eastern coast of Australia, entertaining audiences at the Sydney Lyric Theatre (2014), Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne (2015) and the QPAC Lyric Theatre in Brisbane. It was an enjoyable show overall, earning itself second place in my inaugural Theatrical Production of the Year Award last year. After only touring three locations and celebrating a little over 500 shows, Strictly Ballroom the Musical’s “world premiere” season came to a close.
While it is unknown if this show will be expanded to other locations in Australia or perhaps exported to audiences outside of Australia, a recent update to the official Strictly Ballroom the Musical website indicates that plans are in the work for this show’s future.
