The Confidence Man Begins Run at The Arts Centre Gold Coast

-

Delivering a theatre experience quite unlike anything I have experienced before, The Confidence Man is now being held at The Arts Centre Gold Coast from now until Monday October 26th.

Taking place in The Art Centre Gold Coast’s ‘The Space’, with an intimate capacity of just 50 people per session, guests are invited to sit around the no-walls layout of a house which serves as the stage. Among the crowd are six guests who have “volunteered” to take on the six principal character roles. With a mask, a set of headphones and several props to interact with; these actors act out their character roles with guidance from the narrative and instructions playing through their headphones. With the dialogue being pre-recorded, spectators are also equipped with a set of headphones and a tablet device which allows them to peek into the inner thoughts and events taking place between each character.

Public sessions for The Confidence Man are being held on Friday (6:30PM and 8:30PM) and Saturday (6:30PM and 8:30PM), with both 8:30PM sessions to also have a Q&A session afterwards. Each show comes in at 60 minutes in length, and is priced between $15.00 and $27.00 depending on your student/concession status.

I hope to have my review of the show up tomorrow. Given that it is not possible to experience both participant and performer roles in one sitting, my review will be focused on the performer role.

The Confidence Man is being presented by The Arts Centre Gold Coast and Side Pony Productions.
