While Anything Goes is set to begin in Queensland this evening, things are set to become a little bit naughty at the Sydney Lyric Theatre – with previews set to begin for Matilda the Musical later today. Previews for the inaugural leg of Matilda the Musical’s Australian tour are set to be held from today until Sunday August 2nd, with Opening Night set to follow closely after. This will be the first step in a hopefully successful Australian tour of the Tim Minchin / Dennis Kelly / Royal Shakespeare Company stage adaptation of Roald Dahl’s renown children’s book.

Those in other states who are unable to travel to Sydney to see Matilda the Musical may also be in luck, as it seems like the stage musical might be headed to Melbourne after its Sydney leg. The auditions page on the show’s website has been updated with a new children’s casting brief – seeking young actors and actresses to take part in auditions for the child roles present in the musical. Role being cast are: Matilda, Amanda, Lavender, Alice, Hortensia, Eric, Bruce, Nigel and Tommy – all of which will likely be re-cast per state.
No exact theatre location or start date have been confirmed however. Check back in the future for any news regarding new legs in Matilda the Musical’s Australian tour.
