With the 2015 Helpmann Awards set to take place on July 27 in Sydney’s Capitol Theatre, the team behind the event have today confirmed its host and a number of feature performances that will be held during the evening.

It has been announced that previous Helpmann Awards winner Todd McKenney will serve as host for the 2015 awards. Live Performance Australia (LPA) chief executive Evelyn Richard has said on McKenney’s appointment:

The Helpmann Awards celebrate Australia’s finest live performances and performers, and who better to host our annual event than one of Australia’s most well-loved, dynamic and versatile live performers, Todd McKenney. McKenney’s charisma and aptitude in the many disciplines of performance make him an audience favourite and we are thrilled to have him as our host this year.

Commenting on his new role as host, Todd McKenney has stated:

It is an honour to host the 2015 Helpmann Awards and celebrate the immense talent within our live performance industry. I am excited to be able to share this night on stage with my peers acknowledging what an amazing industry we have here in Australia.

Like many other award ceremonies for the performing arts, the 2015 Helpmann Awards will not be without a few guest performances from upcoming and ongoing performances. Given that the Capitol Theatre is currently playing host to Les Miserables and the ceremony will be taking place on-set, the show will be opened up by the full cast of the stage musical.

This evening will also include performances from:

  • The cast of the Tony Award winning musical, Once, for a one-off performance exclusively for the 2015 Helpmann Awards
  • The Australia Piano Quartet, one of the few ensembles worldwide committed to the piano quartet genre
  • Previous Helpmann Awards nominee and Australia’s foremost illusionist, Cosentino – The Grand Illusionist.

Helpmann Awards Executive Producer, Jon Nicholls has commented:

I am thrilled that we have been able to gather together such a stellar group of artists to help celebrate excellence in live performance.
