CDP Theatre Producers in association with Monkey Baa Theatre Company have announced that they will be bringing a new modern adaptation of May Gibbs’ classic stories to Australia starting next month. Based on the iconic tales of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie (Arguably Gibbs’ most recognisable work), this all-new play will bring the beloved characters to live in a “modern, funny and enchanting” production which seeks to introduce today’s children to the world of May Gibbs.

This new production will star Georgia Adamson, Kirk Page, Christopher Tomkinson and Jacob Warner. On the back end, the play has been directed by Susanna Dowling, while Imogen Ross handles production design, costume designs are by Matthew Aberline, lighting designs are by Trudy Dalgleish and sound design is by Daryl Wallis.

The Gumnut babies are on a mission to see a human – but only in the distance! On their journey to the big city they meet friends and foes including Professor Kookaburra, Mrs Fantail, Mr Lizard, Mr Frog, Mrs Snake, Mr Possum and, of course, Little Ragged Blossom. Can Snugglepot lead the way? Can Cuddlepie hold his nerve? Can they avoid falling victim to the Big Bad Banksia Man?

Snugglepot and Cuddlepie will preview at Darling Quarter, Chatswood, Casula, Parramatta, and the Seymour Centre before the World Premiere season at The Playhouse, Sydney Opera House from Saturday 27 June. Tickets to the premiere season are available for select times between Saturday June 27 and July 12; with ticket prices set at between $30 and $49.

While there are certain restrictions associated with the program, Snugglepot and Cuddlepie is part of The Balnaves Foundation Open House Program. This is a brilliant program which offers socially and economically disadvantaged adults and children $5 tickets to selected performances. More information on this program can be found HERE.
