Those near the Capitol Theatre from tomorrow until Sunday should expect to see crowds of parents, young children and strollers – with Octonauts Live! Operation Reef Shield set to begin tomorrow at the venue. This new performance is based on the worldwide children’s animated series, The Octonauts, produced by Silvergate Media and airing daily on ABC2 at 8AM and 5:45PM.
While the original TV series is animated in Ireland by Brown Bag Films and produced initially for the United Kingdom audience (and subsequently exported around the world), this stage rendition has been created and produced in Australia. Life Like Touring’s Theresa Borge serves as writer and director following a solid repertoire of other youth-oriented productions including Schooby-Doo Live! Musical Mysteries and Sesame Street Presents Elmo’s World Tour.
The OCTONAUTS are an eight person team of quirky and courageous undersea adventurers who are always ready to dive into action! It is their mission to explore new underwater worlds, rescue amazing sea creatures and protect the ocean. They are led by valiant polar bear Captain Barnacles, Lieutenant Kwazii the daring cat, and Medic Peso the big-hearted penguin. As this is a stage performance and not simply a film screening, the animated characters have been reimagined for the live stage, with lifelike walkaround costumes for each of the characters.
Tickets are still available for all runs at the Capitol Theatre, with shows at 10:30AM, 1:30PM and 4:00PM on Friday and Saturday (March 6th-7th) and two final showings at 10:30AM and 1:30PM on Sunday (March 8th). Tickets prices vary, with more information available on the official Capitol Theatre website. Each session is approximately 1 hour 20 minutes in length, including a 15 minute interval.
Following the Sydney session, Octonauts Live! Operation Reef Shield will move to the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne.
