The Assistant | Take That (In-Game) Snap Daily Photo

My former Free Company in Final Fantasy XIV was big on presenting events aimed at the English-speaking community on the Kujata server. We had seasonal events for Christmas, Halloween and Valentine’s Day; along with other events created around a particular theme or just a whim. We even had a few meme-worthy traditions, such as the regular Limsa Lominsa “nudie run” which was always a hoot.

In our group we had a smaller team which focused on playtesting events, taking on either the roles of different personalities as story-important characters OR being the players themselves. In the former case, I had the opportunity to take on many varied roles and alter egos. “The Assistant” was one of my favourite characters, where I was given the freedom to ad-lib my character’s eccentric, snarky and pop-culture inspired personality. Through an hour-long narrative, she worked with participants and guided them through material collection for one of Professor Val’s mad scientific schemes.

While the Free Company is no more, I would love to get back into doing this again sometime.

Take That (In-Game) Snap Daily Photo is an off-shoot of the Take That (In-Game) Snap article series, in which the first article focusing on Final Fantasy XIV was recently published. This looks at, celebrates and critiques how video game developers have implemented professional photography-like systems into their games. It will cover how the systems handle, just how accessible they are and, where applicable, how a modding community might be making these tools even better. With this Daily Photo spin-off series, I will be sharing individual photos from the games either covered or soon-to-be-covered in the series.
