In an announcement made earlier this morning, North American manga publisher Seven Seas Entertainment confirmed that they now hold the license for Angel Beats!: Heaven’s Door. This announcement closely follows the Japanese release of developer Key’s new visual novel Angel Beats! -1st Beat- on the PC.

Inspired by the popular anime, light novel, manga and now visual novel franchise; this manga details the events which led to the formation of the Afterlife Battlefront.

Angel Beats!: Heaven’s Door is a title we’ve been eager to publish. The anime was a major hit, and this manga series builds upon the Angel Beats universe by adding an in-depth backstory, exciting new plot elements, and deeper characterizations. Comedy, action, cute girls, and even some interesting thoughts on the afterlife – we think Heaven’s Door will be a great title for both new and old fans of the work.

Angel Beats!: Heaven’s Door currently has eight volumes released in Japan and is an ongoing series. Seven Seas will be publishing the series as individual volumes, each with a colour insert. The first of these volumes will be available in North America starting February 9 2015 at a cost of $12.99 US / $14.99 CAN.

Official Synopsis for Angel Beats!: Heaven’s Door

Hideki Hinata has just died…but his life is far from over. Finding himself stuck in a kind of purgatory in the Afterlife School—an academy for recently departed lost souls—he begins to learn that the land of the dead has just as many annoying rules, if not more, than the land of the living.

There he meets Yuri Nakamura, a brazen young woman who harbours nothing but contempt for God due to the life she was forced to lead before passing away. Together, Yuri and Hideki form the SSS brigade, otherwise known as the Afterlife Battlefront—a group whose purpose it is to rebel against God in any way they can. However, standing in their way is the stoic and cold Tenshi, a supposed angelic messenger of God…who just so happens to be the Student Council President!

Can Yuri and the rest of the Afterlife Battlefront overcome their fate or are they destined to be stuck in a limbo world forever?!
