With the upcoming supernatural mystery anime The Mononoke Lecture Logs of Chuzenji-sensei: He Just Solves All the Mysteries set to premiere in Japan starting 7 April 2025, Pony Canyon has shared a new key visual and their first major trailer for the upcoming anime, seeking to offer a glimpse into the series’ retro-inspired aesthetic and character designs.
Set in post-war Tokyo in 1948, the story follows Kanna Kusakabe, a high school student who encounters Akihiko Chuzenji, a newly appointed literature teacher with a sharp intellect and an air of mystery. Together, they unravel a series of supernatural incidents, blending youthful drama with occult mystery. The anime serves as a prequel to Natsuhiko Kyogoku’s Hyakki Yako novel series, and is specifically based on the manga adaptation illustrated by Aki Shimizu, exploring Chuzenji’s past as a teacher.
The trailer, available to view above, also showcases the Japanese voice actors for the series. Shinnosuke Tachibana will voice Reijiro Enokizu, a striking young man with an eyepatch over his left eye and a long-standing connection with Chuzenji from their student days. Shuya Nishiji meanwhile shall portray Tatsumi Sekiguchi, a researcher specializing in myxomycetes who struggles with extreme social anxiety. Takanori Hoshino will take on the role of Shutaro Kiba, a policeman stationed at a local police box and a childhood friend of Enokizu.
The trailer also introduces newly announced cast members portraying familiar characters from the Hyakki Yako series. Mitsuru Miyamoto will voice Soichiro Enokizu, Reijiro’s older brother, while Kaoru Sakura will play Yukie, a friend of Chizuko and Sekiguchi. Both voice actors shared statements, available below:

I love stories set in the Showa era. Despite the hardships, people helped each other, the streets were full of energy, and there was a warm atmosphere. Through my appearances, I truly enjoyed immersing myself in the captivating world of Showa that this work portrays. I hope you all enjoy it too!
Mitsuru Miyamoto

Being able to lend my voice to a work that once thrilled me is an absolute joy. Unexpected oddities lurking in daily life, quirky yet delightful characters… If I was able to bring warmth to Yukie in the midst of it all, I would be truly happy. Let’s look forward to the broadcast in April together!
