25th Anniversary Screenings of Princess Mononoke Coming to Australian and New Zealand Cinemas

Marking the 25th anniversary of the critically-acclaimed Studio Ghibli classic, CrunchyRoll has announced they will be bringing Princess Mononoke to select cinemas across Australia and New Zealand from 14 July 2022 for a limited time. While you can nab yourself the film on Blu-ray and watch it from the comfort of your own couch, this may be one of the rare times you can enjoy this classic with a big bucket of cinema popcorn in your lap.

To mark the anniversary screenings, CrunchyRoll has also confirmed that participating cinemas will offer a free commemorative pin featuring San’s signature mask with ticket purchase. This collector item is strictly limited while stocks last.

Set in the 14th century as the harmony that humans, animals and gods have enjoyed begins to crumble, Princess Mononoke tells the story of young warrior Ashitaka, who seeks a cure from the deer-like god Shishigami after being infected by an animal attack. In his travels, he sees humans ravaging the earth, bringing down the wrath of wolf god Moro and his human companion Princess Mononoke.

We are delighted to introduce a whole new generation of fans to Princess Mononoke and give them a chance to see this anime classic on the big screen. The last 25 years have made this fantasy epic more popular than ever, with the enduring themes of environmentalism and humanity more important now than ever before.
