Ahead of seeing Sword Art Online: Progressive in cinemas, do you have the urge to binge-watch the entire SAO anime works to date? Up until now, you would have been able to bar one thing, the feature film Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale. Despite being its own thing and standalone to any other instalment in the franchise to date, it still serves as a decent enough instalment but has only been available to purchase on DVD or Blu-ray to date. Funimation has confirmed that Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale is now available to watch to subscribers of their streaming service.
Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale is now available with both the original Japanese audio and newer English dub, both reprising their lead voice cast from the TV anime episodes. Uncut and accessible to premium subscribers, you can begin watching HERE.
About Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale
In 2026, a new machine called the Augma is developed to compete against the NerveGear and its successor, the Amusphere. A next-gen wearable device, the Augma doesn’t have a full-dive function like its predecessors. Instead, it uses Augmented Reality (AR) to get players into the game. It is safe, user-friendly and lets users play while they are conscious, making it an instant hit on the market. The most popular game on the system is “Ordinal Scale” (aka: OS), an ARMMORPG developed exclusively for the Augma.
Asuna and the gang have already been playing OS for a while, by the time Kirito decides to join them. They’re about to find out that Ordinal Scale isn’t all fun and games…
