Building upon their range of anime licenses for the current Summer season of anime in Japan, Sentai Filmworks have announced they now hold the rights to Himouto! Umaru-chan. This season is set to begin this month, and will be available officially and legally through a number of digital distribution outlets. A home video release is also set to follow in the coming years.
Based on the original manga series by Sunkaku Head, the series reveals the secret life of 16-year-old Umaru, whose schoolmates believe to be beautiful, kind, intelligent and practically perfect in every way. Only her brother Taihei knows the real Umaru, who lives on snack foods, refuses to help with the chores and spends all her time sleeping and watching TV… until the day a classmate catches her in the act, and Umaru must come up with an even bigger lie to conceal the truth!
This twelve episode series is being directed by Masahiko Ohta (Love Lab, Mitsudomoe). Series composition is provided by Takashi Aoshima (Love Lab, Indian Summer), while Head’s original character designs are being adapted by Aya Takano (Polar Bear’s Cafe) and Yasuhiro Misawa (Love Lab, Kokoro Connect) is providing the music. The overall animation production is being handled by Doga Kobo (Koihime Musou, Majestic Prince, Another etc.).
