Fans of the Musashi Industrial & Starflight Concern (MISC) line of ships in Star Citizen have sure been fortunate the past few months. Not only was the MISC Freelancer given a visual overhaul and made flight ready just before Christmas last year, but the MISC Starfarer has very recently become Hangar Ready.
But the MISC ship line-up hasn’t been completed yet, and the company are set to offer those looking to make it big in mining a more affordable means to break into the industry. This is because with the previous ship line-up, the only mining ship is pricey. While others could possibly be outfitted with mining equipment through the modularity system, the only mining-oriented ship to have gone to a concept sale is the Roberts Space Industries Orion. Proving to be 1.7x the size of the MISC Starfarer, this ship is 170m in length, and was available for $325.00 USD. This is likely to be out of the budget (they are willing to pledge) for many I would assume, and would no doubt have a hefty in-game price to match. This is compared to other space simulation games like EVE Online where mining is a basic skill that is a viable means for newcomers to make money.
But would a ship with a pledge price of $140.00 (and presumably an equivalent in-game value) be more to your liking? Cloud Imperium Games have day kicked off their latest concept ship sale for the MISC Prospector. This is a small 24 metre long ship which comes with a reasonable cargo capacity of 128 units and designed to be flown by a one person crew rather than a group of players or NPCs. While it is more affordable than the RSI Orion, it does have some perks over the pricier ship.
While the RSI Orion is designed for a full team to work their way through an asteroid field, the MISC Prospector is more about precision mining and extraction of minerals either on small clusters of asteroids or planetside – the latter of which the Orion cannot do. With this regard, the sensors of the Prospector work on a smaller and more detailed scale – rather than the Orion which works on a much longer range.
The MISC Prospector will be available for purchase in-game, and will presumably be the equivalent of an “Entry Level” mining craft. However for those looking to pledge real funds to acquire one, the concept sale will run until May 2nd 2016 HERE. As with most concept sale purchases, this comes with lifetime insurance (LTI) and hangar flair (Poster/Model).
Want to keep a few upgrade tokens for an eventual upgrade? Want to know more about the state of the game before committing to a pricier ship? While you won’t get any of the concept sale perks, you can purchase the $0 Freelancer MAX to Prospector upgrade token HERE. As of writing, the Freelancer MAX is one of the three Freelancer ships which are readily available for purchase.

For the last few years, Star Citizen has been continuously crowdfunding through the sale of game packages, in-game ships and other items. It has currently raised more than $112 million. As the game stands at the moment, it is currently in its alpha phase, and it is currently unknown when the Persistent Universe module will actually launch in its final form. The game’s campaign module – Squadron 42 – on the other hand has previously been listed by CIG for a release later this year. Time will tell if this happens.
