Although it could be argued that this isn’t a premiere of sorts, given the show has been in preview for the past few weeks, the Australian opening night of Matilda the Musical is set to take place this evening at the Sydney Lyric Theatre. Although the six seats (as of posting) are almost at the back of the theatre, there are surprisingly still a few seats available for the opening night session which begins at 7:00PM. Tickets for the opening night and subsequent sessions can be nabbed via Ticketmaster.
Even if you miss out on seeing Matilda the Musical during its opening night, there is no shortage of opportunities to attend a session. Matilda the Musical will be at the Sydney Lyric Theatre until at least November 29 2015, and it is quite likely that even more dates will open up in the coming weeks and months.
Matilda the Musical is set to begin at Sydney, and will be followed by a ran at an unspecified theatre in Melbourne starting in 2016. Although information on future legs is not available, I think there is a very high chance of Matilda the Musical coming to other states. Coming from Queensland, I am personally hoping they don’t dilly-dally in bringing the show to Brisbane.
