Citing an “extraordinary demand”, it has been announced that new tickets will be released today for the Sydney season of The Sound of Music – which is set to begin at the Capitol Theatre starting December 13 2015. Ticket sales are now set to be possible for sessions from opening night until January 17 2016.
Amy Lehpamer (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Once, The Rocky Horror Show) will take on the lead role as Maria Rainer, while Cameron Daddo (Legally Blonde, Big River) will fill the shoes Captain Georg von Trapp. This duo will be starring alongside Marina Prior (Mary Poppins, The Secret Garden) as Baroness Schraeder, Jacqueline Dark (Opera Australia’s Aida, Don Giovanni) as Mother Abbess, Lorraine Bayly (Calendar Girls, The Sullivans) as Frau Schmidt, David James (Playschool, Avenue Q) as Max Detweiler, Stefanie Jones (Once) as Liesl and newcomer Du Toit Bredenkamp as Rolf. The Sound of Music’s ensemble cast will include Johanna Allen (Sister Sophia), Eleanor Blythman (Sister Margaretta), Sophie Cheeseman, Colin Dean, William Groucutt, Stephen Madsen, Dominica Matthews (Sister Berthe), Katie McKee, Kathleen Moore, Ashleigh Rubenach and Sophie Weiss.
This London Palladium Production of The Sound of Music is set to begin in Sydney, followed by a season in the Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s Lyric Theatre from March 11 2015, and a Melbourne leg at a date and venue yet to be announced. The latest Australian production of this Rodgers and Hammerstein classic is being produced by John Frost AM, Andrew Lloyd Webber, David Ian and the Really Useful Group.

Inspired by the lives of the actual von Trapp family, The Sound of Music tells the uplifting true story of Maria, a fun-loving governess who changes the lives of the widowed Captain von Trapp and his seven children by re-introducing them to music, culminating in the family’s escape across the mountains from Austria. It features an unforgettable score that includes some of the most famous songs ever performed on stage, including My Favorite Things, Edelweiss, Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going On Seventeen, The Lonely Goatherd, Climb Ev’ry Mountain and the title song, The Sound of Music.
