Released worldwide in 2010 and developed by Cavia, NieR served as a competent spin-off game to the Drakengard franchise. Boasting a fantastic soundtrack, a memorable storyline/characters and an interesting approach to New Game +, it is a game that I not only completed but managed to completely Platinum.
While Cavia has now shut its doors, this has not prevented Square Enix announcing that a sequel is in the works, and currently in development through a collaboration with Platinum Games. Despite the original being a PS3/X360 multiplatform game, NieR New Project is currently being developed exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
While more information is set to be shared about this new project later on in 2015, key members of the development team have been confirmed. Yosuke Saito (Dragon Quest X / NieR) will serve as producer alongside Yoko Taro (Drakengard / NieR), character designer Akihiko Yoshida from CyDesignation, Inc. (Final Fantasy XIV / Bravely Default), game designer Takahisa Taura from PlatinumGames Inc. (Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance), and composer Keiichi Okabe from MONACA, Inc. (Tekken /Drakengard / NieR).
