It has been confirmed that the Australian production of Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers will have a strictly limited three-week season at Melbourne’s Alex Theatre (St Kilda), beginning July 16th 2015. Following its West End debut in 1983, the stage musical has seen many tours in the United Kingdom, the United States, and finally, Australia. With book, music and lyrics originally produced by Willy Russell, this Australian production of Blood Brothers see’s Andrew Pole serving as Director, Michael Tyack as Musical Supervisor and Kellie Dickerson as Musical Director.
Helen Dallimore takes the lead as Mrs Johnstone, complemented by an ensemble cast including Bobby Fox and Mickey, Josh Piterman as Edward and Michael Cormick as the Narrator. Other cast members include Bronwyn Mulcahy as Mrs Lyons, Christy Sullivan as Linda, Jamie Kristian as Sammy, Matt Edwards as Mr Lyons and Erin James as Donna Marie.
Blood Brothers tells the story of the Johnstone twins. Separated at birth when their mother cannot afford to keep them both, Mickey and Edward grow up streets apart, becoming best friends but never knowing the truth of their heritage. The prophecy that twins who are separated at birth will die on the day they find out their heritage brings this stunningly crafted musical to its shattering but inevitable conclusion.
