On March 1st 2015, The Arts Centre Gold Coast invited young and ambitious tap dancers for an audition to take part in their upcoming one night only event: Swing on This. These seventeen hopefuls were put through their paces by former Tap Dog (and choreographer of Swing On This), Christopher Horsey and We Will Rock You star (and co–producer of Swing On This) Michael Falzon. With only four positions up for grabs, they claim it was an extremely hard decision to choose who will go forward.

Ultimately they decided that Brady Burchill (aged 10), Kieren Bofinger (aged 13), Harmi Davis (aged 10) and Riley Brooker (aged 11) made the cut, and have moved forward to rehearsals which began on March 8th 2015. They will ultimately be joining Michael Falzon, Matt Lee, Luke Kennedy and Ben Mingay on stage come March 25th 2015.

Produced in collaboration with Good Egg Creative and Asia Theatricals, Swing on This aims to deliver a modern and audatious take on some of the all-time swing classics, alongside interpretations of rock and pop songs from the past four decades. Enlisting an 18-piece big band for the show, they hope that your “toes will be tapping to the sophisticated sounds of the fifties through to the nineties and noughties”.

Brad Rush | Performing Arts Manager

The successful cast of four will be choreographed and mentored by one of the leading dancers and choreographers in the country, Christopher Horsey who is originally a child of the Gold Coast. The Arts Centre continues to lead the way in professional development for local artists and creating performance pathways for emerging young talent.

Swing on This is set to be held at The Arts Centre Gold Coast on March 25th 2015 at 7:30PM until around 9:30PM. Tickets will cost between $35 and $64 AUD, depending on age, “Friends of the Arts Centre” status, student/concession status and group size. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
