GUST have today released a new set of screenshots and information for their upcoming PlayStation 3 release of Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea (Also reported on this site as Atelier Sharry until an official romanized title for the game was announced). The new information surrounds three new characters who will each provide new storyline elements to the Dusk universe however only one has formally been confirmed as a playable character so far (Kortes).
The first announced character is Kortes (コルテス), an 18-year-old sailor who has known Shallistera since they were both young children and to this day remains a close friend and protective of her. The second character is Nady Elminus (ナディ・エルミナス), the 36-year-old mother of Shallote and finally there is Teokhuga (テオクーガ) who at the age of 58 remains a chaperone of Shallistera while also working as a boatman.
New information has also been shared on how Gust have attempted to diversify the currently existing gameplay system to ensure a fresh gameplay experience. One way they do this is through the new Life Tasks system which appear as you are making your way through the game and are dependent on your play style and story progression. An example provided is if you choose to favour combat over alchemy, the alchemist duo will be presented with tasks more related to combat, the hope being to always add an incentive to play through the game rather than time skip.
Additions to field exploration are also being implemented, where fulfilling life tasks and other actions can have a direct impact on the fields you explore. The system used in Atelier Escha & Logy where interacting with the environment gives you the opportunity to summon a high level monster, find a relic etc. seems to also be making a return albeit with a couple of improvements.
Both of the heroines will also be able to access specific field actions that are not available to the other. Shallistera for example can perform dousing to find hidden items while Shallote will be able to fish for items. Both girls will also be able to mine while in the field.
Atelier Shallie is set for release exclusively on the PlayStation 3 within Japan from June 26th, 2014. No international release date has been confirmed by Tecmo Koei at this point in time.
