Adol’s adventure is heading to the Nintendo Switch 2 next year, with Nippon Ichi Software America (NIS America) announcing that Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on 25 February 2027, and the new release will add Spanish-language support to the game for the first time. This will be a native release, compared to the current option for the Switch 2, which is the backwards compatible Nintendo Switch version.
The Switch 2 version can run at up to 120 frames per second, and supports co-op through GameShare, letting players bring a friend along for the adventure.
Ys VIII begins with Adol waking up shipwrecked on a cursed island. Together with the other stranded passengers, he sets up a village to survive while searching for a way off the island. Along the way, Adol starts dreaming of a mysterious blue-haired young woman named Dana, and uncovering who she is becomes central to the story.
Players can switch between characters on the fly during fast-paced battles against dangerous enemies. Dana also has her own gameplay sections, which gradually reveal the mystery surrounding her. Back at camp, rescuing other castaways and bringing them to the village unlocks useful services.
