Tatsuya and Miyuki’s story is heading to cinemas. Crunchyroll has opened ticket sales for The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie: Yotsuba Succession Arc, which it will screen with Sony Pictures Entertainment in the United States and Canada for three days only, on 1, 3 and 4 November 2026. The film is based on the original story by Tsutomu Sato and directed by Jimmy Stone. It runs for 102 minutes and will be shown in Japanese with English subtitles as well as with an English dub.
Set in 2096, almost a century after magic became an established technology, the film follows siblings Tatsuya and Miyuki as winter arrives during their second year of high school. Tatsuya, the older brother, has a fatal flaw in his magical ability, while Miyuki is a gifted student with unmatched magical talent. Despite their differences, the two have lived side by side in harmony, until a letter arrives inviting them to the New Year’s Banquet at the main manor of the Yotsuba Clan.
At the banquet, attended by Clan Head Maya Yotsuba and the heads of each branch family, the next leader of the Yotsuba Clan will be named. Miyuki dreads being chosen. Taking on the role would mean she could no longer remain single and would be required to marry, ending the days she has spent at Tatsuya’s side.
Becoming Head of the Clan would, however, give Miyuki the power to change Tatsuya’s position. As a Guardian, he has long been looked down upon, and in the hope of securing his freedom, Miyuki makes a major decision on the way to the Yotsuba manor, telling her brother: “Brother… I will become the Head of the Yotsuba Clan.” With conspiracies swirling inside the clan and a shocking truth hidden between the siblings, the film brings their story towards its conclusion.
The TV anime adaptation premiered in 2014 and now spans three seasons and 52 episodes. The franchise also includes the 2017 film The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie: The Girl Who Summons the Stars, the Reminiscence Arc special anime broadcast in 2021, and a range of video games, manga adaptations and other projects.
