Spike Chunsoft has shared new information on Danganronpa 2×2, detailing the game’s alternate Slayhem mode and a reworked World Map system, while also confirming the title has been pushed back to early 2027.
The delay to early 2027 was addressed directly by the game’s producer Shohei Sakakibara, who shared the following statement:
To everyone who has supported Danganronpa 2×2,
While development has been progressing toward a 2026 release, we have decided to move the launch to early 2027. We will share a more specific release date at a later time.
We are continuing to work to bring you the best possible experience. We sincerely appreciate your patience as development continues, and we look forward to sharing further updates with you soon.
Danganronpa 2×2 offers two distinct ways to experience a retelling of 2012’s Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, both accessible from the outset of the game. The first, called “Original” mode, retells the 2012 story with enhanced visuals and updated presentation suited to current hardware. The second, “Slayhem” mode, keeps the same foundation but branches into a different storyline once a particular incident sets events on a new course, resulting in different victims, culprits and tricks compared to the source material.
The game’s navigation has also been overhauled. Where Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair relied on a side-scrolling map to move between locations, Danganronpa 2×2 replaces it with a three-dimensional World Map intended to give players a better sense of the island’s layout. Players will be able to move around freely on foot or use fast travel to jump straight to a chosen location.
