The stop-motion animated short Little Nightmares: Broken Promises has been officially selected to screen at the upcoming Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Competing in the Commissioned Films category, the project was first introduced to audiences during the Little Nightmares Showcase Event in June 2025.
This short film was developed through a collaboration with the International Animation Center Taller del Chucho at the University of Guadalajara. The Mexican studio, which was founded by filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, specialised in the handcrafted stop-motion techniques used to recreate the specific eerie aesthetic found in the original video game series. Directorial duties for the project were shared by Sofía Carillo and Juan Medina.
The story of Broken Promises follows the journey of a neglected young girl who is confined to an attic. Seeking a way out of her circumstances, she finds an entrance into a dollhouse world that initially appears to offer a better life. As she travels deeper into this miniature realm, she discovers a more sinister reality where various monsters are hidden within the shadows of the dollhouse facade.
