Ghost Of Yōtei Legends Multiplayer DLC Launches As Free Update

-

Sucker Punch Productions and Sony Interactive Entertainment have released a significant update for their latest title, Ghost of Yōtei, introducing a cooperative multiplayer component to the experience. Ghost of Yōtei Legends is now available as a free download for all existing owners of the base game via patch 1.5. This mode shifts the focus from the single-player journey to an online environment where players must work together to face supernatural threats based on the game’s central antagonists.

The expansion launches with several distinct modes of play, which seek to tailor the experience for different group sizes. In Survival mode, teams of up to four players must defend specific territories across four unique maps against waves of enemies. Maintaining control of these locations allows players to trigger “Blessings” for a combat advantage, while losing control results in “Curses” that increase the difficulty.

For those seeking a narrative-driven cooperative experience, the Story mode offers a series of 12 missions for two players. Completing sets of these missions grants access to Incursions, which are four-player assaults on strongholds that conclude with boss battles against supernatural versions of the Spider, the Oni, the Kitsune, or the Snake.

Players can choose between four specific character classes, each tailored to different combat systems and weapon types:

  • Samurai: Focuses on the ōdachi and possesses the most versatile range of weaponry.
  • Archer: Utilises the yari (spear) and is capable of carrying a secondary ranged weapon.
  • Mercenary: Specialises in dual katana with a focus on utility-based abilities.
  • Shinobi: Employs the kusarigama and a variety of stealth-oriented skills.

While every class retains access to a standard katana and ranged options, they each have unique armour cosmetics that can be unlocked by completing specific in-game feats. As players progress and level up, they will earn loot and “Legendary” gear by participating in higher-difficulty challenges. The update also includes a dedicated Legends lobby where players can test their skills in combat and archery, or participate in mini-games such as Zeni Hajiki and Bamboo Strike between missions.
