The Genji and Heike clan conflict continues in a new format this year as Idea Factory International prepares to bring the otome fan disc, Birushana: Winds of Fate, to Western audiences. The game is scheduled for a physical and digital release on the Nintendo Switch across North America and Europe on 26 May 2026.
This follow-up to Birushana: Rising Flower of Genpei follows Shanao, the youngest surviving heir of the Genji name who must conceal her female identity while navigating a world defined by the aftermath of the Heiji Rebellion. The fan disc structure offers a blend of new narrative paths and continuations of established romances. Players can explore five epilogues that pick up after the conclusion of the original game, alongside four new “Main Routes” that introduce the Sato brothers and other fresh love interests, allowing for new perspectives on the wartime setting.
Gameplay in the new Main Routes remains choice-driven. Decisions made by the player directly impact Shanao’s affection levels with the cast, which ultimately dictates which of the multiple endings the player will trigger.
Standard physical editions of the game are currently available for preorder at various retailers for $49.99, €49.99, or £49.99. These physical copies will include a bonus trading card pack while supplies last. Each pack features nine cards, covering every love interest in the game, with one card in each set guaranteed to have a holographic finish. While the Standard Edition is already listed at general retailers, the North American and European IFI Online Stores plan to offer both the standard version and an exclusive “Plus Edition” at a later date.
