Publisher GCORES PUBLISHING and developer Rewinding Games have confirmed the release date for their upcoming title, Roots Devour. The strategic exploration card game is set to launch on PC via Steam on 27 January 2026. The game will be available at a standard price point of $14.99 USD, but to mark the release, a 10% discount will be applied for the first two weeks, reducing the price by about a $1.50.
Roots Devour is positioned by GCORES PUBLISHING and Rewinding Games as a blend of strategy, adventure, resource management, and deckbuilding, centering on a distinct card-connection mechanic. A twist to the traditional card play, the game requires players to lay out cards and expend resources to forge physical connections on the board.
Players take on the role of a newborn eldritch entity summoned during a deep forest ritual. The primary objective is to extend roots to pierce, entwine, and drain the lifeblood of surrounding creatures, expanding the entity’s reach through the darkness to dismantle and consume the world.
The full release is comprised of five chapters, with a single playthrough estimated to last between 10 to 15 hours. Each area introduces specific rules and mechanics that players must adapt to. To assist in this exploration, the game features 14 unique card decks and hundreds of individual cards, allowing for a variety of builds and synergies. Unlockable abilities also permit players to reshape terrain and intervene in events. Narrative progression in Roots Devour aims to be driven by player choice and interactions with diverse characters, ranging from survivors to cultists and madmen. Players can choose to trade with these characters, engage in dialogue, or claim them as “Dependents”. These decisions are designed to alter the fates of the NPCs and dictate the final outcome of the story.
