MONO ENTERTAINMENT and publisher Kodansha have announced a demo for their upcoming turn-based deckbuilder game The Fable: Manga Build Roguelike will be released on the PC starting 9 October 2025, ahead of a full launch on 5 November 2025 for PC and Nintendo Switch. This demo is being released as part of the latest Steam Next Fest.
Based on the manga ‘The Fable’ written and illustrated by Katsuhisa Minami, the game follows Akira Sato, a mild-mannered but elite assassin ordered to avoid killing for one year. Combat plays out in turn-based encounters where players arrange manga panels to execute non-lethal attacks, blocks and movement. The Next Fest demo covers the first three chapters and also introduces a Challenge Mode that limits Akira and his crew to a single page to subdue each opponent, pushing careful sequencing and efficient play.
Party options expand with Yoko’s stealth strikes and Suzuki’s trap setting to widen tactical routes and apply debuffs. Multiple difficulty levels are planned. Progression also ties into minigames inspired by the source material, which award additional cards to broaden a deck’s possibilities. The game’s aesthetic design blends authentic hand-drawn manga illustrations with retro pixel art effects.
