Bandai Namco Entertainment and developer Brownies inc. have released Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree, a roguelite action adventure now available globally on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
Presented in an isometric 2D perspective, the game blends sword and magic combat across eight playable characters as they fight to protect Shinju Village and the wider world from Magatsu and his Magaori forces. The game seeks to pair fast paced encounters with a hand drawn character style, painterly environments and a new soundtrack composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto. The peaceful look of Shinju Village contrasts with an underlying threat, framing a journey where courage and cooperation drive progress.
Each quest will see players send two Guardians into the field. One wields the sacred sword Tsurugi and the other carries the magical staff Kagura. Every Guardian has distinct skills that can be unlocked and upgraded while exploring dungeons or by interacting with townsfolk back in the hub of Shinju Village. Crafting materials found along the way can be used to forge and improve swords, encouraging different combat styles and team combinations.
Progression stretches across multiple timelines as the village changes over the years. Building bonds with residents reveals customs and stories tied to the community, while dungeon runs and boss encounters move the narrative toward a showdown with Magatsu. The goal is to unite the Guardians, strengthen their abilities and restore peace to the land.
