Retroware has confirmed that The Angry Video Game Nerd 8-Bit, inspired by the AVGN Youtube series, is headed to modern consoles and Steam on 23 October 2025, reviving the foul-mouthed retro platforming chaos for a new round of players. Developed by Programancer in collaboration with Retroware, this modern take adds all-new live-action cutscenes starring James Rolfe to frame the action like a playable AVGN episode.
A fresh gameplay trailer narrated by the Nerd walks through several punishing pixel-art locales, including a ghoul-haunted graveyard, a mechanised cyborg factory, and violent Victorian streets among other hazards. The footage sets the tone for precision jumps, projectile-heavy encounters, and sardonic commentary woven around each stage’s traps and gimmicks.
Players do not have to wait to start raging. A free Steam demo is available now, featuring the first two stages of the full game.
