The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls: Starlight Stage Outlines Major Service Changes Ahead of 10th Anniversary Indicating End of Major Development

In what is some disappointing news to say the least for fans of the Japan-exclusive mobile game, and has some hesitant about an upcoming (but still unannounced) end of service (EOS), Bandai Namco Entertainment and CyGames has shared a number of service changes to The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls: Starlight Stage, which includes the removal of cover songs, the release of final story events and the upcoming discontinuation of features and new content in general.

Content Removals, Last Releases and More

Immediately Ceasing – Select Shop, Dress Coordinate presets, AniPuchi chibi dioramas, Location Photo mode, Game Center minigames and additional voicing for existing idols all stop receiving new content.

31 July 2025 – The four Haruhi Suzumiya cover tracks (“Hare Hare Yukai,” “Bouken Desho Desho?,” “God knows…,” “Lost my music”) exit the music catalogue.

Early August 2025 – Last Memorical Commu Episode

21 August 2025 – PC edition Starlight Stage and the companion DereSpot app both close. The same date ends distribution new Cinderella Theatre shorts.

31 August – All remaining cover songs are withdrawn.

Late August 2025 –Story Commus conclude with Episode 83

3 September 2025 – The final new event featuring a brand new song. Subsequently, the final batch of gacha idols released, alongside a final dress in the dress shop. After these updates, no further idols, songs or dresses will be added.

This is not phrased as an end of service, with Bandai Namco Entertainment and CyGames aiming for this restructuring to maintain playability for existing fans while marking the end of major content expansion. Perhaps not the news any fans would have been hoping for in advance of 10th Anniversary celebrations. But alas, with the current structure of live service games, it is always the risk you take – the money and time you invest can always be taken away by the whims of a publisher. While unlikely to have any impact on games not released in Europe, this is one of the reasons why the Stop Killing Games initiative in Europe is so important – and if you are an EU citizen, may be worth signing the petition for.

At the very least, with so much rich content in the game, should The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls: Starlight Stage ever reach EOS, an offline version contingency will hopefully be offered – if not on mobile platforms – at least on consoles and PC.
