Baby Steps, the next project from developers Gabe Cuzillo and Maxi Boch (Ape Out) alongside Bennett Foddy (QWOP), is scheduled for release on 8 September 2025. The game will be available on PC and PlayStation 5, with Devolver Digital handling publishing duties.
Described as a “literal walking simulator,” Baby Steps follows the story of Nate, an unemployed man with little direction in life who unexpectedly discovers his own unique power: the ability to put one foot in front of the other. What begins as a slow, uncertain journey soon evolves into a personal exploration through a mysterious world where every step is manually controlled by the player.
The game embraces physics-based gameplay, requiring players to control each movement of Nate’s legs as he hikes through mountain landscapes, navigates natural obstacles, and gradually forms meaningful connections in an otherwise directionless life.
Drawing on the unconventional design sensibilities of its creators, Baby Steps sets out to offer a blend of humour and introspection, with a dynamic soundtrack composed of over four hundred unique beats and sound cues. The title also includes a “fully dynamic onesie soilage system” and a range of non-collectible hats – features that continue Devolver Digital’s tradition of supporting offbeat game design.
