PlayStation Studios, Arc System Works, and Marvel Games have jointly announced Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a new tag-based fighting game set within a stylised reimagining of the Marvel Universe. Slated for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, the game brings together iconic Marvel characters and Arc’s distinctive visual and gameplay approach.
The title introduces a new 4v4 tag team format, expanding on traditional 2v2 and 3v3 systems to allow for larger, more dynamic battles. Designed to cater to a wide audience, the gameplay system accommodates both newcomers and genre veterans, with input options that support both simplified controls and traditional fighting game commands. Players will control a single character but can summon additional team members during battle to assist or combine attacks.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls features a lineup of well-known Marvel heroes and villains, including Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Storm, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, and Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes). Each character has been adapted with unique playstyles and visual designs that reflect Arc System Works’ animation-driven style. The developers have also indicated plans to include lesser-known and previously unplayable characters in the roster.
Visually, the game has shifted away from an initial Western comic book style toward a look more in line with Arc’s Japanimation-inspired aesthetics. This creative decision was made in collaboration with Marvel to better blend the familiar Marvel identity with Arc’s established artistic direction.
Stages in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls are also designed with attention to detail, featuring environmental transitions that affect gameplay. These locations incorporate visual references to Marvel lore, offering hidden nods for fans to discover while contributing to the flow and tactics of each match.
Gameplay mechanics are rooted in each character’s established powers and personality, with a variety of Normal, Special, and Ultimate Skills. The developers have focused on ensuring that character movement, attacks, and team interactions deliver a fresh experience, distinct from previous fighting games in the genre.
More information about the game is set to be shared in the months leading to its 2026 launch.
