Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) has rolled out its most expansive update for Star Citizen to date, highlighted by the introduction of the Aegis Idris – now the largest player-controlled spaceship in the game. The update is available to all players during a free trial period running until 27 May 2025.
Measuring 240 metres in length and constructed with over 13 million polygons, the Aegis Idris capital-class frigate surpasses the scale of a typical multiplayer map. Its addition marks a significant technical milestone, serving as a major test for Star Citizen‘s static server meshing technology. According to CIG, the feature has successfully handled the increased load, effectively segmenting universe zones with minimal disruption.
The company noted this as a key achievement for its engineering team, representing the results of recent optimisation efforts following the releases of Alpha 3.24 and 4.0. Looking ahead, CIG aims to introduce dynamic meshing, which will allow server meshes to reconfigure in real time, paving the way for larger fleet battles and more dynamic events throughout the persistent universe.
Players participating in the current free trial can access the game with an Aegis Avenger Titan and test-fly over 100 ships and vehicles. Discounted starter packs are also available for those wishing to continue their journey. This ties in with the in-universe Invictus Launch Week 2955 event currently being underway, offering players the chance to engage in themed activities such as test-flying ships and tours of capital ships, all within the game’s universe.
