Australian indie developer Orchid of Redemption has announced that its upcoming narrative puzzle game After Light Fades will launch on PC via Steam on 20 June 2025. Furthermore, game will be available with a 10% discount during its first week.
In After Light Fades, players step into the role of Alice, a woman processing the loss of her partner Aura, who perished in a house fire. The story unfolds as Alice discovers seven artefacts in the ashes—each connected to a significant memory—and journeys through seven ethereal puzzle worlds. These environments feature sokoban-inspired challenges that combine spatial logic and box-pushing, with each world introducing a unique ability linked to an artefact. Players are eventually required to give up these abilities, symbolising a personal act of letting go.
The gameplay is enriched by a set of interconnected mechanics, including mirrors, magnets, vines, clones, transmutation, fire propagation, electricity, and teleportation. These elements are designed to mirror the emotional journey of grief and transformation experienced by the protagonist. In addition to its main story, After Light Fades will offer a level editor with Steam Workshop support, enabling players to create and share custom puzzles using the full suite of in-game mechanics.
Director Al Thumm commented on the game’s thematic focus, sharing:
This isn’t just a puzzle game about moving boxes, it’s a meditation on what we lose and how we grow. Each of the 7 key mechanics you master, you must eventually abandon. The player feels that loss, and that’s the heart of the experience.
