Ubisoft has announced that Rainbow Six Siege will enter a new era on 10 June 2025, marked by the launch of Siege X and the beginning of Operation Daybreak, the second season of Year 10 content. These changes are set to bring a range of updates and content inclusions, including new gameplay modes, technical improvements, and quality-of-life refinements.
Siege X will be available for free to all current owners of Rainbow Six Siege and will also introduce Free Access, allowing new players to participate without a purchase. Players using Free Access will have access to modes such as Quick Match, Unranked, and the new Dual Front 6v6 mode for current generation consoles and PC.
Among the features being introduced in Siege X are destructible environmental elements like explosive gas pipes and interactable metal detectors, improved movement with a revamped rappel system, and map modernisations that enhance lighting, shadows, and resolution. Five maps will be updated initially, with three more to follow each season.
Audio clarity is also being improved with an overhaul to the in-game sound system, while communication and strategy will be enhanced through a new communication wheel and ranked match pick-and-ban systems. New onboarding processes and practice playlists — Enlisted for newcomers and Field Training for returning players — aim to ease the learning curve. Other additions include a weapon inspect feature, a career stats tracker, new Operator voice lines, and an in-game esports tab for following competitive matches.
PC players will have early access to Siege X via the test server from 20 May at 11 PM AEST to 9 June at 11 PM AEST.
Coinciding with this update is the launch of Operation Daybreak, bringing both content and balance updates. Clash, the shield-wielding Defender, is receiving a remaster. Her upgraded CCE Shield MK2 can now be deployed and controlled remotely, allowing her to move freely while maintaining area denial. The shield automatically adjusts to movement states and can be redeployed as needed.
Other balance changes include:
- Electricity will now slow Operators and destroy gadgets without causing direct damage.
- Limb damage has been reduced.
- Shield Operators will no longer aim down sights while vaulting or dropping.
- Blackbeard’s shield visibility has been adjusted.
- Jackal’s footprint scan will now ping only once, with five total uses.
- Jäger can now counter additional gadgets with his ADS.
- Thunderbird’s Kona Stations will no longer heal enemies unless taken over by Brava.
- Sledge can knock down shield users, a relevant update for the new mixed-team structure in Dual Front.
Ubisoft is also expanding its R6 ShieldGuard initiative, aimed at reducing cheating and toxicity. The unified anti-cheat system will become dynamic in Season 2, enabling direct game executable updates mid-season. This follows a reported decrease in cheat reports since the implementation of new security technologies in Season 1.
Looking ahead, Season 3 will include the Defender debut of a Swiss Operator, three modernised maps (Nighthaven, Lair, and Consulate), and the launch of the Siege Cup competitive event. Season 4 will celebrate the game’s 10th anniversary with a new Attacker remaster, a multi-Operator weapon, updated maps (Theme Park, Skyscraper, and one full rework), and training mode improvements. A new Testing Grounds playlist will allow experimentation with gameplay ideas. Full details for Seasons 3 and 4 are expected to be revealed later in 2025.
