The Kickstarter campaign for Remnants of Yore has officially launched by Team Yore and Harakka Studio, inviting players into backing what the development team aim to be a narrative-rich, cosy rogue-lite adventure developed in Unreal Engine 5.5. Drawing inspiration from titles such as Stardew Valley, Moonlighter, and Hades, the game places players in the role of a young cat wizard who inherits an antique store in a mysterious, long-forgotten town.
Beyond the dusty relics and worn shelves, every object in the store houses a spirit with unresolved business. Players are tasked with helping these spirits, rebuilding the town, and forging connections with its inhabitants. The game features romance options with all eligible townsfolk, reflecting the protagonist Yore’s pansexual identity. Players can also engage in multiple-partner relationships, representing the development team’s commitment to inclusivity and player freedom.
Visually, Remnants of Yore seeks to employ a distinctive 2.5D pixelated orthographic style, created by post-processing a fully 3D environment. The result is a rich pixel art look enhanced by Unreal Engine’s lighting capabilities. Combat in the game takes a minimalist, accessibility-focused approach. Centred on magic, players utilise a floating magic tome to cast spells or engage enemies with animated spellbook attacks. The system has been designed to prioritise simple inputs with strong audio-visual feedback, making it intuitive and responsive.
The game’s soundtrack is being developed in partnership with Bon Music Vision, a collective led by Yerosha Windrich and Elfed Alexander Morris. Known for their avant-garde work across television, fashion, and arts sectors, Bon’s musical contributions aim to underscore the game’s themes of belonging and introspection. Remnants of Yore takes place in the same universe as Peasant, a prior title from Harakka Studio funded via Kickstarter in 2024. Set one thousand years after Peasant, this new entry is a standalone story, focusing on exploration, emotional decision-making, and a touch of the supernatural.
The Kickstarter campaign is now live, offering further details on development goals and backer rewards. As of writing the game as surpassed its 15,000 euros crowdfunding goal, with 15,357 euros pledged from 125 backers with 21 days remaining.
