SNK Corporation has released Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, marking the fighting franchise’s first new instalment since Garou: Mark of the Wolves in 1999. Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves reintroduces the series with a new art style, a new “REV System” to offer players expanded offensive capabilities, and two distinct control schemes designed to cater to newcomers and seasoned players.
Set once again in the vibrant and chaotic streets of South Town, players are invited to witness a new chapter in the city’s saga of ambition and rivalry. Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves launches with a roster of 22 characters. This includes 17 base fighters, complemented by five additional characters available through Season Pass 1. Special guest appearances from footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and music artist DJ Salvatore Ganacci are also joining the line-up.
The game’s combat introduces the REV System, a new mechanic that aims to add greater offensive options through techniques such as REV Arts, REV Accel, and REV Blows, counterbalanced with players having to manage the REV Meter to avoid overheating. Classic features such as Just Defense, Dodge Attacks, Feints, and the series’ trademark two-lane battle system make a return, albeit refined for modern competitive play. Players can choose between two control schemes: Arcade Style, favouring technical input precision, and Smart Style, which simplifies special moves and combos through directional inputs and single-button presses. This flexibility aims to ensure both newcomers and experienced players can enjoy the game at their preferred skill level.
In story mode, players will experience a narrative centred around South Town’s struggle for Geese Howard’s legacy, with themes of family, rivalry and destiny woven throughout the battles. An additional mode, titled Episodes of South Town (EOST), offers a single-player RPG experience where players can level up their characters, unlock skills, and face various fight conditions to carve their own legend. Online functionality includes rollback netcode for smoother matches, cross-platform play, and a range of multiplayer options, including Ranked, Casual, and Room Matches. The game also introduces AI-generated clones that learn from player behaviour, offering additional training and competitive opportunities.
Players will also find a Colour Edit Mode, enabling them to customise character outfits and gear, with more options unlockable through the EOST mode. Complementing the gameplay experience, 19 new music tracks seek to bring the world of City of the Wolves to life during battles.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves also makes its esports debut, joining The King of Fighters XV and Samurai Shodown as an official title for the SNK World Championship 2025. The total prize pool for City of the Wolves competitions will exceed $2,500,000, with the overall champion earning $1,500,000. Regional qualifying tournaments will lead up to a grand finals event in the United States at the end of 2025. Further information regarding tournament schedules and additional prizes will be released in the coming months.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is now available in a Special Edition package, including the base game and Season Pass 1 content. There are no plans to sell the base game and Season Pass 1 separately at this time (So… the season pass is the base game experience at this time).
