Developer and publisher Nekki has unveiled a new gameplay trailer for SPINE, its upcoming single-player action game combining cinematic presentation with stylised gun fu combat. The trailer was revealed during the Twitch Galaxies showcase, alongside confirmation that the game is now targeting release on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, in addition to previously announced platforms PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Dubbed the Gameplay and Freeflow Combat Design trailer, the video highlights protagonist Redline’s dynamic fighting style, described as “Freeflow Gun Fu.” In these sequences, players seamlessly chain together attacks by parrying, disarming enemies, using the environment for takedowns, and incorporating improvised melee weapons. The result is a fluid combat system with cinematic flair that adapts to player input.
The trailer also introduced Hardcore Mode, a twist on traditional no-hit gameplay. In this mode, Redline’s sunglasses serve as a visual indicator of the player’s performance—they will remain intact only if the player avoids taking any damage throughout the game.
Set in a cyberpunk future ruled by the authoritarian Tensor Corporation, SPINE follows Redline, a rebellious street artist, and her AI-powered combat implant. Players will navigate an oppressive world, confronting enemies while uncovering a story that explores themes of trust, resistance, and transformation.
Built using both Unreal Engine 5 and Nekki’s in-house animation tool Cascadeur, SPINE seeks to place an emphasis on visual storytelling. Combat choreography is informed by real stunt performers, with the camera dynamically adapting to the action without taking control away from the player.
SPINE is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. A release window has not yet been announced.
