Rebellion, the independent video game studio known for the Sniper Elite and Zombie Army franchises, has released its latest title, Atomfall, which is now available on PC, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
Set in a fictionalised version of 1950s Britain, Atomfall is a post-apocalyptic survival-action game inspired by the real-life Windscale nuclear incident. The game places players in the heart of a quarantined area, where they must investigate the mysterious events surrounding the Atom Plant and attempt to escape the zone, encountering a variety of eccentric characters along the way.
Atomfall seeks to blend elements of science fiction, folk horror and Cold War paranoia to create a uniquely British take on the post-apocalyptic genre. Influences include classic British science fiction such as The Day of the Triffids, early Doctor Who, and The Quatermass Experiment. Players will explore, investigate, converse and fight their way through the world to uncover clues about what truly happened. Combat is described as intense and high-stakes, combining precise shooting with brutal melee engagements. Survivors can scavenge through ruined homes, craft life-saving items and weapons, and even search for hidden treasures using a metal detector.
