Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced that Patapon 1+2 Replay, a remastered collection of the first two Patapon games, will be released on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC on 11 July 2025. Originally launched on the PlayStation Portable in 2007 and 2008, these titles are known for blending rhythm-based gameplay with real-time strategy – and are for the first time being made available on non-PlayStation platforms.
Patapon 1+2 Replay follows the story of the Patapon tribe, who, after being driven from their homeland by the Zigoton army, await the return of the Mighty One—the player—who leads them into battle through rhythmic drumbeats. The goal is to guide the tribe through numerous challenges and ultimately return them to their homeland.
This 2D platformer maintains the original’s core mechanics, where players issue commands to their Patapon units by striking four distinct drums in time with the beat. These units come in various classes, such as the Hatapon (standard bearer), Kibapon (mounted warrior), and Yumipon (archer), each contributing different strengths in battle. Customisation is a key feature, with players able to create unique units by combining items and rare materials collected during gameplay. More than 400 types of weapons and equipment will be available to discover.
The remaster introduces several new accessibility features aimed at both newcomers and returning players. These include three difficulty settings—Easy, Normal and Hard—alongside timing adjustment options and a constant on-screen display of command patterns to aid in gameplay.
